San Francisco-based design studio, Monothetic, will be releasing their debut title, Beacon to Steam early access at the end of the month.
Beacon casts you as Freja Akiyama, a space privateer on her journey to find the emergency distress beacon of her own ship. Aside from weapons, you’ll also be able to alter your DNA as you die and respawn using the DNA of your fallen enemies. These changes will alter the gameplay each time you die.
Throughout the game, you’ll discover the many mysteries of the planet Kovus 18, a beautifully harsh planet with traps, deadly wildlife and natural hazards. Nature aside, you’ll also encounter warring factions during your time in the procedurally generated levels of Korus 18. Along the way, you’ll discover more weapons, upgrades and questions to be answered. How much of her humanity gets sacrificed is up to you.
Beacon began as a project on Itch.io and since then has added a plethora of new features to their rogue-lite title. Some of these changes include new levels, tons of weapons, enemies and combat balance. A full list of updates can be found here.
For the 2.0 version, Monothetic is moving to Steam to reach a broader audience for playtesting and bug fixing. Beacon can be wishlisted on Steam here. Beacon’s progress can also be followed on Monothetic’s Twitter and Discord.
