Sci-Fi RPG Star Renegades Lands on PC September 8

Star Renegades is a tactical Sci-Fi style RPG by Massive Damage, Inc. due to release on Steam and GOG on September 8.  Current generation consoles do not have a release date yet but it is expected to also be within this year. So far, Star Renegades looks to be a promising title.

The Steam page for the game describes it as “a strategy RPG about outsmarting AI-driven adversaries, forging friendships, and toppling galactic empires”. The fighting system is turn-based, where a ‘timeline’ is key — you will be able to interrupt your enemy’s attack to score a critical hit, but the enemy can beat you in much the same way.

In a developer AMA in June, Massive Damage also mentioned a camping element that the player uses to restore shields and armor as well as boost relationships between the characters in the game. (These characters can also produce offspring if you boost these relationships enough.)

The visuals are particularly impressive, with an attractive use of color (look at the vibrant red in the picture above for an example) and background art that reminds me a little of Hyper Light Drifter. Steve London’s soundtrack for the game also seems good — you can listen to a track on the developer’s YouTube page.

You can take a look at the new trailer for the game (with neat anime-type visuals and a cinematic style) below:

Massive Damage was founded by Ken and Gary Seto in 2010. Their previous games include Please Stay Calm, which the game’s official site calls “a location-based zombie survival game,” and Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander. You can visit the official Discord for the developers (and even pick up downloadable wallpapers for Star Renegades) right here.

The more I hear about the game, the more excited I become for September 8th. You can visit the official Star Renegades site here.
