From Merge Games, Riot – Civil Unrest is a unique “real-time riot simulator” that places players in control of either side of a conflict. Stages and campaigns include real-life riots translated into the game such as the Arab Spring of a few years ago.
The game’s creator, Leonard Menchiari, was present during the NO-TAV riots in Italy and endeavored to create a game to explore this phenomenon. Players will have to navigate and explore the issues that lead to each riot, as well as consider the perspective of each side and what inflames each conflict.
The game’s scenarios can be solved with either violence or peaceful resolution. Peace may be the more difficult option, but it’s up to players to decide if peace is worth it.
Riot – Civil Unrest is available now on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The Steam version will leave Early Access for a full release on February 12, 2019.
