Ion Maiden Adds “Heskel’s House of Horrors” Update

PAX South may be over, but the news continues to roll in. 90’s era-inspired shooter, Ion Maiden, is being updated with new content that debuted at PAX South. The new content features an all-new level called Heskel’s House of Horrors as well as new weapons and enemies to face. The update is currently available for anyone who previously owned or purchases the Early Access campaign on Steam.

Ion Maiden is being developed using 3D Realms’ Build Engine, which powered recent games such as Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Blood. 3D Realms is very familiar with what makes a classic first-person shooter great, as they developed and created some of the most iconic franchises in early gaming history, including Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Max Payne and Prey.

In the latest content update that was just added, you’ll experience twisting corridors amongst multi-layered stages as well as a slew of secrets to uncover. More enemies will be at your disposal with a host of new weapon types including dual-wielded submachine guns, or Shelly’s new Crossbow, which will undoubtedly make short work of any cultists you might encounter.

Ion Maiden may look like just any other retro-inspired shooter, but it’s poised to bring many modern elements to the game that players have come to expect over the years. For instance, the game will have widescreen and controller support, feature auto-saves and interactive physics.

Frederick Schreiber, co-owner of 3D Realms said, “Early Access players made Ion Maiden what it is today. Bringing PAX South content to them is our little way of saying thank you and giving them another taste of the bloody broth in store for the full release.”

Ion Maiden is set to bring its classic “gun-blazing mayhem” to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC when it launches across all platforms later this year.
