The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II Launches on PC

The long-running RPG series The Legend of Heroes sees its newest release in the United States this week, as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II finally makes its debut on PC.

Originally released for the PS3 in Japan in 2014 and in the United States on the PS4 in 2016, the sequel to 2015’s Trails of Cold Steel is now live on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store worldwide.

XSEED, the publisher behind the series’ localized versions, is celebrating the launch with a 10 percent discount through all three stores for the duration of launch week before the title returns to its original price of $39.99.

The Legend of Heroes is Nihon Falcom’s third-longest running RPG series, following Dragon Slayer and the Ys series. Although The Legend of Heroes initially found few fans in the west, the 2011 release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky allowed the series to grow its own cult following, eventually leading to the launch of Trails in the Sky SC in 2015.

Since then, the third Trails in the Sky game and the first Trails of Cold Steel game have both been brought to North America, with the series seeing at least one English release per year. Both Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel have been praised for their writing, combat, and offering players dozens of hours of gameplay.

Trails of Cold Steel II picks up just one month after the dramatic conclusion of the first game, in which a single decisive moment changed the fate of the entire Erebonian Empire. The game has been enhanced from its original release with support for ultra-wide resolutions, the option to launch the game directly from your most-recent save, and the addition of “Turbo Mode.”

Any user who owns a copy of Trails in the Sky will find an Estelle and Joshua costume set waiting as a free download.

If you’re new to the series, consider picking up the original Trails of Cold Steel alongside it. It launched on PC last August and kicks off the story of Rean Schwarzer in high fashion.
