From the developers behind The Road Not Taken and Alpha Bear, Spry Fox is set to release their newest addition into their catalog, Cozy Grove.
Cozy Grove takes the player on a journey of a Spirit Scout exploring an island full of ghosts while trying to bring color and life back to the island. Cozy, cute and chock-full of island adventure, it is reminiscent of Animal Crossing, but with some spooky mystery and adventure to give it extra life.
The artwork in this game is oozing with familiarity and calm textures with their hand-drawn style, giving the appearance of playing in an artist’s coloring book. The style is reminiscent of other hand-drawn games such as the Don’t Starve franchise. Everything from summoning ghosts to fishing has a relaxed feel to it. The game starts in a tone downed style, devoid of vibrant colors and adorable acquaintances. As the player completes tasks and soothes the souls of the delightfully shaped and not-so-scary ghosts, the island comes back to life.
The game runs in real-time, therefore depending on your time zone and time of day, the game matches that to immerse itself with the player’s daily life. With roughly over 40+ hours of gameplay, this game can be enjoyed and explored. Much like Animal Crossing, Cozy Grove can be played in small bursts, perfect for those who only have a small amount of time to play. As of launch, the game is single-player only — but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the room to add multiplayer. According to Steam user and Cozy Grove developer francoisvn: “Cozy Grove won’t be launching with multiplayer, but if it does well we might add it later (no promises tho, it’s a long shot)”
Releasing April 8th, 2021, Cozy Grove will be available to play on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Playstation, Epic Games Store, Steam, and it is currently available on Apple Arcade.
