Scott Pilgrim is the titular character in a graphic novel series initially published between 2006 and 2010 by Brian Lee O’Malley. Although Scott can be said to be a bit of a loser, with no job and a part-time gig in a band, this Toronto-based young adult’s story has been made into a movie and a video game.
The premise of the graphic novel, the movie, and the game are all the same: Scott Pilgrim falls in love with Ramona Flowers, a roller-skating delivery girl. In order to be with her, he must defeat her 7 evil exes.
Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game was originally developed and published by Ubisoft in August 2010. It was released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the digital storefronts, and it was subsequently delisted in December 2014.
Since being delisted, maybe have hoped for the return of Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game. In 2020, Scott Pilgrim author Brian Lee O’Malley announced on twitter that Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game will be rereleasing in the same year as a completed edition containing the base game and all the DLC.
Due to world events, the release date was pushed into 2021. The date for the release of Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game Complete Edition for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia is January 14th.
This has still left some fans of the game uneasy, since at the time of the announcement, no physical versions of the game release were mentioned. Many feared that what had happened in 2014 might happen again, where the game would be delisted, or the service shut down for the console, and the game would not be able to be played or preserved.
Fortunately, Limited Run Games has stepped up to the plate. They are offering not only a physical edition of the game on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, they also have two other collectors bundles on sale starting January 15th. On top of that, Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game Complete Edition merchandise will also be available for purchase, from pins, to keychains, to apparel, and more.
This is the chance to own a game that many feared would never see the light of day again. It is a fun and colorful beat-em-up with local and online multiplayer that any fan of the genre (or fan of the graphic novel) can now add to their modern video game collection.
