Itch.io’s Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality Raises Nearly Two Million Dollars

There has been a lot of media coverage about the tragedy of George Floyd’s final moments at the hands of police officers. A byproduct of this story being so readily told is that this has turned into a call to action to stop racism and end police brutality. For almost two weeks, protests, demonstrations and financial campaigns have gathered around the same cause; Black Lives Matter.

You might have seen protests being organized in your area or maybe you have noticed lists of black-owned businesses now available online. Perhaps you participated in Blackout Tuesday, a day where individuals were asked to post solid black backgrounds and reflect on the events that have occurred. Or maybe you donated to the cause by buying a cool CSS T-Shirt on bonfire.

If you love indie games as much as we do here at Indie Ranger, and also want to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement, you are in luck. Itch.io, an online marketplace designed for independent digital creators, is offering the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality as their own way to show support and solidarity during this time. Over 740 projects have been donated at this time, and the platform is offering the package as a Pay-What-You-Can framework with a minimum purchase of five dollars.

There are more than 560 creators who have added their talent to the bundle. Included in the bundle are standout titles like Death and Taxes, Night in the Woods, OneShot and Semblance. Additionally, there are a handful of asset packs and other software thrown into the mix like the Desktop Goose, which allows you to let a goose terrorize you while you try to search on Google or watch a YouTube video.

Every bundle purchased is over $3,400 in value. All proceeds will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Community Bail Fund. The fundraising goal for this project is two million dollars and with eight days left to go, the organizers have already reached 86% of that goal at the time of writing this article.

The Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality is a wonderful example of the indie development community coming together to support an important issue. It is also a great way to support a worthwhile cause and receive a staggering amount of indie games to keep you busy.
