Global events have shaped the way we have lived our lives for many months now. Some people have turned to gaming as a coping mechanism for what feels like an endless stream of lockdowns, shelter-in-place and stay-at-home orders. This means of entertainment provides interactions, stories, and — most importantly — escapism. Edge of Eternity might be that next escape.
There’s nothing quite like escaping into a new world in a video game, and there’s no better way than a great JRPG. These games tout large, often colorful worlds with lovable characters you come to view as family. These are the games where you can get lost in them. In comes Edge of Eternity, a JREG releasing soon on PC that looks like it might be the next place you might want to escape to.
French developer Midgar Studio has teamed up with publisher Dear Villager to create an epic-looking JRPG that you would expect from the big studios. Crowdfunding from Kickstarter has ensured that this game should be released at the highest quality. In Edge of Eternity, you play as Daryon and Selene, two heroes growing up in wartime and hoping to find a cure to poison filling the world of Heryon.
Based on the recently posted gameplay trailer, the game is open-world with a variety of different environments. It features several traversal methods, like fast travel and mounted companions. The combat looks to be turn-based tactical in nature.
The video also mentions some upgrades, magic, and varying weapon types to suit your play style. Most notably, this game boasts a soundtrack composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer from classic titles like Chrono Trigger & Xenoblade Chronicles. Based on the information on hand, JRPG fans will be in for a treat once this game is out.
The full game has now been released on Steam. The team has planned for its release on consoles — namely the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Series X and Xbox Game Pass — later on in 2021.
