Vivid Spirit by LucasMaxBros is a 2D platforming adventure that is inspired by games like the Kirby series and Paper Mario series. Players gain control of a resident of Papercraft, Vivid, a paper-crafted girl who uses the power of colors to travel among Papercraft and defeat her opponents. She is joined by her adorable pet dog, Spirit, whom the player can also control. Follow Vivid and Spirit as they experience multiple “stories” and the perils of Papercraft in this colorful adventure. There are a total of 5 story adventures that allow the player to explore Papercraft and its world. Help Vivid rescue Spirit from Slam Jim the Bully in one adventure and help Spirit retrieve his lost toys in another.
Vivid Spirit is entirely drawn by hand, displayed satisfyingly in both the gameplay and the UI. Creator Luke Rossback serves as the designer, programmer and hand-drawn artist for the entire game. That’s over 3000 hand-drawn character poses and environments!
Vivid Spirit includes puzzle and fighting interactions that are dependent on the color that Vivid or Spirit wields. Beware, because every color Vivid and Spirit can use has both its advantages and disadvantages. This means that enemies with the same color that Vivid and Spirit equip will take double the damage, but when hit by those same color enemies, the player will take double the damage! In regards to gameplay, the player can not only perform one of the best interactions in any video game — petting the dog — but the player can also be the dog and pet the human.
A Kickstarter for Vivid Spirit launched on April 28 of this year with a goal of $6,000 to be reached by May 28. The release date is to be announced in the future, but information about the game can be found on its Steam Page, Twitter, and the official LucasMaxBros website. There is a playable demo out NOW on both steam and Itch.io.
