Rogue Glitch Review

When one first enters Rogue Glitch, it can find itself cozy in the arms of a simple menu and an accessible tutorial. At first, the game is very simple, as the player just has to move around and kill enemies as they appear; there isn’t even a shoot-assigned button, it’s automatic! However, it all changes as one starts surfing through the levels with growing confidence. There is a simple premise in the game, survive; but it is not an easy task.

To start with, enemies are everywhere, with each “zone” having a higher number of stronger, never-seen-before foes. But the enemies are not the only threat, as the floor is lava, except for the aerial platforms that you must hang on to. Furthermore, everything is colored in a way to make your eyes hurt. In the end, you’ll have to advance through the infinite, randomly generated rooms until you inevitably die.

However, the free roguelite is not as hardcore as I’m presenting it to be. One can beat the enemies in front of them if they use strategy and strategy is the keyword for the game. As enemies do not attack you unless you approach them, you have to plan your steps in a careful manner and attack each enemy at the correct time. If you wanted to play this game in autopilot mode, you definitely couldn’t. You must think about where you are going to jump, how you are going to do it and how you are going to evade the enemy’s attacks. Planning is key, but so are reflexes, and, if you play Rogue Glitch, you will see your plans may not be as good as you thought.

And your gamer reflexes will get you far, but fighting upgrades that lie in chests and different special rooms will get you further. Some overpowered upgrades will even give you an extra dash, during which you are invincible. Additionally, the player’s avatar can be permanently upgraded in the main menu of the game, which is accessible after every death or rage quit in order to give you fewer motives to hit your gaming setup. Simply put, they will give you more damage, speed, life and extra upgrades. But beware, as each avatar has its own level and evolution. They even have unique abilities that other avatars do not possess and may be key to your gameplay.

Even if most of the game the player is fighting thousands of enemies and bosses, the story is not one that must go unnoticed. It’s just like the game: simple, yet complicated. If you wanna feel as helpless as when your mother forced you to let your little brother or sister play with your console, this is your game. You will meet the final boss again and again, only for you to meet your undeniable fate – and biggest enemy – death

Rogue Glitch is not perfect, it can definitely fill you with frustration and rage at times, making you wonder “Why am I even doing this?” The flashy, colorful lights may even damage your eyes at times where you are desperately trying to find anything in a full burst of neon colors. But you will surely do so when your Zelda-like hearts start disappearing. Even if the game is free to play, the player will have to pay for the online version of it; thus only presenting one free playing mode.

All in all, Rogue Glitch is entertaining, fun and a perfect challenge for every platform and roguelite keen gamer and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to test themselves. It is available on Steam and is free-to-play.
