‘One Finger Death Punch 2’ is an Intense Casual Game

One Finger Death Punch 2 is the sequel to Silver Dollar Games’ popular game, One Finger Death Punch. In it, you control a stick figure as you use only 2 buttons to defeat incoming stick figure assailants. The gameplay is simple, press the right button to attack to the right and the left button to attack to the left. One Finger Death Punch 2 manages to be very easy and straightforward while remaining an intense button mashing experience.

One Finger Death Punch 2’s most important feature is its difficulty. When you do better the game gets harder, but when you do poorly the game gets easier. The game also has useful accessibility options for people like me who struggle to hit the same button really fast. As a result, never getting stuck on a level or being frustrated with the difficulty lets you relax.

There’s a wide variety of enemies and weapon, but you can handle everything with a good old punch in the face.

However, relax may not be the right word. The game takes pleasure in its brutal violence against enemy stick figures. The player character never misses a chance to viciously dismember enemies at any given opportunity. References to other media, such as Mortal Kombat fatalities and horror movie deaths come off as endearing rather than excessive. Each gruesome death manages to make the game campy and feel like an 80’s action movie, rather than disturbingly violent.

I enjoyed my time with One Finger Death Punch 2. The game advises you to play in short bursts which is exactly what I did. If I had 10 minutes before I had to leave, or was waiting in queue for a multiplayer game with my friends, I booted up OFDP2 and had some instant gratification. The game has no dialogue, practically zero loading times, and short matches that you can pause at any time. With this, I’ve never gotten penalized for leaving a game or quitting without hitting a save point.

Attacking in quick succession may reward you with powerful combo moves.

One Finger Death Punch 2 also has a ton of upgrades to choose from. Each one is a different passive that will activate occasionally as you play. Many of them are quite similar in effect, but look vastly different and keeps the game fresh. You earn “skill tokens” from optional levels which you can spend on what you like. You can freely move around these skill tokens from one upgrade to another. The freedom you have makes upgrades fun because you never have to stress out about choosing a bad upgrade. The sense of progression in unlocking new levels and abilities really makes the game satisfyingly addictive.

If you want all the action of a fighting game without the time investment, One Finger Death Punch 2 is perfect. OFDP2 always satisfies me every time I play it with the violent rhythm of my stick figure dancing across the screen. Constant over-the-top sound effects and violence leave me in a soothing trance of badassery without fail.

You can violently kill groups of enemies with flashy power-ups.

One Finger Death Punch 2 isn’t a game I would recommend just to people who are a fan of video games. I would recommend it to people who spend a little more time at home waiting than they would like to. Anyone stuck in queues, getting bored of scrolling through their phone, or need to flip food over in the oven in 10 minutes can appreciate this game. One Finger Death Punch 2 delivers the quickest adrenaline rush on the market is now my new favorite waiting room.
