Indie Game “Ancient Cities” Successfully Funded Via Kickstarter

After a 14 day campaign, developer Uncasual Games has successfully kickstarted their new survival strategy game, Ancient Cities. Their official Twitter account announced that it was 100% funded on June 26; one day before the Kickstarter was set to end.

Since reaching their milestone, they have exceeded their goal by 25 percent, reaching a stretch goal that would allow them to implement fluid dynamics and DRM-free releases on gog.com and itch.io.

In Ancient Cities, the player will take control of a Neolithic era tribe and grow with each generation; evolving from a hunter-gatherer society into a full-fledged city. With a desire to create their own vision with ease, the developers have decided to create their own engine specifically for this game.

“We are developing our own custom engine and gaming technology for Ancient Cities because it allows us to render what we envision: thousands of items on the screen at the same time with nice fps, offering the players breathtaking images of their cities. Both, game-play and detail, are important to us.” – Ancient Cities‘ Kickstarter Page

Before starting their Kickstarter endeavor, Ancient Cities was greenlit on Steam, reaching 2nd place in only four days and being one of the last games Valve chose to greenlight.

Taking a slow and steady approach to their game development, Ancient Cities is in early alpha and is predicted to be released in December of 2018.  Upon its initial release, it will only be available on Windows. However, Uncasual Games has stated that other platforms are to be determined.

For future updates on this project, check out their Twitter page and their official website. For your viewing pleasure, I have posted their Kickstarter video, which features early alpha gameplay, below. Congratulations to the staff of Uncasual Games, and may you all have the best of luck!
